Blender – Extrude faces along their local normals

Software:
Blender 2.79

  1. Select the faces.
  2. Press Alt + E to open the Extrude options.
  3. Select Extrude Region (Vertex Normals), and drag to set the length.

Note:
This will not work if the Pivot Point is set to Individual Origins.

  1. in later version there is a separate icon for ‘extrude along normals’, extrude region would not work in the example you have provided
